Abstract

A novel perspective on the intricate relationships between nature and anthroposemiotics is through the framework of the exposome, which entails a comprehensive evaluation of environmental exposures throughout an individual's lifespan. Environmental factors significantly influence anthroposemiotics, the study of signs and meaning-making in human culture; nonetheless, traditional methodologies often overlook the substantial effects of the exposome. This work aims to elucidate the significance of incorporating exposome research into the study of anthroposemiotics to enhance our understanding of nature's impact on human communication, cognition and cultural evolution. We examine the ramifications for linguistics, semiotics, anthropology and environmental studies, along with potential avenues for incorporating exposome data into anthroposemiotic research, utilising multidisciplinary literature. Embracing the exposome paradigm will enhance our understanding of the intricate interactions between individuals and their environments, facilitating innovative research methodologies and practical insights to address contemporary challenges related to sustainability, culture and communication.
